    Stupid video, it’s pretty obvious the compact disc sounds better than the cassette. If you think otherwise you’re trolling, lying or deaf. Aside from the inferior fidelity just the hiss alone would make me gouge my ears out lol

    I got mine about a few weeks ago on a sweet deal from reverb ! Being installed in Ibanez Jem replica Lucite body with and EMG 81 and 85 both Zack Wylds pickups. And the SA will be in the middle. The guitar has the Tree of life with Blue Led lights up the fretboard. Will be tuned to B standard. And will be my only guitar in that tuning every other is in D standard and a Fender Strat in E flat. No more guitars for me after this! Lol and I’m content! And on this pickup it has a beautiful sound. Can’t wait !!

    A few things to factor in : that Led Zeppelin tape was recorded using Dolby B noise reduction. That boom box does not have Dolby noise reduction. That makes the tape have more emphasis on the treble and more hiss than it should. Basically we are not hearing the tape the way it was intended to be heard. I'm sorry to say that also a boombox like that has a 💩tape mechanism. This will greatly affect the sound quality as far as background hiss and wow and flutter. Some high quality metal and Cro2 tapes have specs that are comparable to CDs if recorded and played back on a proper tape deck. Another thing to consider is how the original music was mastered in the studio. Was it on open reel tape or done digitally on a computer. Music like Zeppelin was mastered on open reel tape and this gives it that classic tape sound from the 60's and 70's. Imo, analog tape has warmth and depth. Digital CDs have sonic clarity and virtually no distortion. They both have their pros and cons. I like CDs for their clarity. I like tape for its warmth and almost alive sound. I basically bought CDs to have the best quality available as a master. Then I would make mix tapes on cassettes and open reel tape for my listening pleasure. I am still an doing this today in 2024 Edit : just wanted to that anyone still using tape and CDs in 2024 is good in my book 🍻.

    Cassette sounds amazing... (I only listen to music on my phone with some decent Iem's. but Cassette deffinitely won here in my opinion. it just has a more... live feel. hard to describe, but clarity, separation. warmth. as you said)

      It's because tape recording captures the continuous waveforms whereas digital recording samples the sound in very small increments. There is information being left out in digital recording. You don't really notice it because the sample rate is so high but an analog recording contains all the information and with quality equipment you will notice the difference.

    • @nicksterj
      @nicksterj 8 дней назад

      @@johnlambert-yu6rl Sampling has nothing to do with it. The whole point of digital audio is to reproduce an _analog_ waveform as accurately as possible, and the signal you get out of a DAC is smooth and continuous-exactly like the one that went in. Any digital format at CD quality or better wipes the floor with analog tape.

    Excellent playing. Surprisingly, on most of the riffs I did prefer the EMG's the fundamental note are coming across so clearly. I have an EMG 81 in my bridge which I love and the 89R in the neck. I usually leave the coil split on to get a similar tone to the SA's.

  • @MrStephenlederle
    @MrStephenlederle 2 месяца назад

    To my ear the EMG strat sounded dull and lifeless. Like the strings were in desperate need of changing and the standard single-coiled strat sounded like it had brand new strings. Very open and chimmy. Every example I preferred the standard single-coil by a lot. I just bought and had shipped out a preloaded EMG Steve Lukather pickguard and now I regret it.

    • @DanielRettberg
      @DanielRettberg 2 месяца назад

      I made this video years ago. What I should’ve done was EQ the amp to each guitar, instead of just plugging each guitar into the amp with the same settings. I had a Lukather preloaded pickguard in one of my strats, and I regret selling it. I would definitely give it a shot with your own amp settings.

    a guitarist from my band sent me this video saying he could hear differences. i listened with eyes closed on monitors and honestly... nothing. no difference whatsoever. so those of you who can hear the differences, may i ask you to tell me which frequencies i should listen for? i'm genuinely interested. by the way, i'd also be interested in a null test. record the guitar's di through let's say the most expensive cable, then start reamping using each one at a time. once recorded, combine all of them into pairs, flip the phase and let's "see" the differences.

    I have a 2004 toyota solara. it's got JBL sound system and it sounds great. the CD player broke, however, the tape player still works. some of the tapes sound really good, but you need to listen on a really good stereo system. When the tapes sound good, they sound better than CDs on any given day. I believe that it has a lot to do with sound engineering back in the day. I am kind of glad my CD player broke. Now I am dying to get some music on cassette....

    The best is to have the two : put the ep booster after the overdrives to make them scream and add that sweet sparkle and the Spark before the overdrives for boost your signal and gain a fatter sound.

  • @toddashley407

    The best answer is .. GET AND THEM BOTH TOGETHER!! Use one as a preamp/preoverdrive boost and the the other as a post preamp boost. In my case I do this with a Super Clean (also by Xotic) preamp boost and an EP post preamp. In this case it gives me nice clean preamp boost tones and smooth boosted lead tones that aren't shrill and sweetened with the EP booster. There are other applications - point is two boosts are far better than just one its more like 10x the power versatility wise than just 2x it would seem on first thought.

    you wouldn't see any reason to move it past 12 O-clock ??? then try them on a low gain amp with only One pre-amp tube, and no phase splitter. ( and that's when they are also "Always On" pedals, to gain and reduce the chance of micro-phonics, and you use something else for lead boost )

    Reel to reel is the purest form of audio seeing it mirrors the original master tapes that recordings are preserved on. Cassettes are a close 2nd because they are effectively "mini" reels.

    I read here some comments about how Malcolm waa underrated, how Angus was the best or the heart& soul, stamp of acdc...it's all low key true...but here's a fact - Angus and Bon were true showmen making the band attractive to watch live - what everybody rocked out to was Malcolm's riffs. Malcolm WAS Acca Dacca. First of all, he influenced and taught Angus to play guitar - 99% of acdc cover bands play Malcolm's riffs wrong...he always added little something to chords and riffs that made them sound real mean.....no band sounds like them for that reason alone
